Ruby Hotgo

Ruby Hotgo left the Azim Steppe at the age of twenty, setting out for Eorzea in the hopes of discovering the fates of her tribe mates who went before her. Shortly before she planned to return home, she learned that her tribe had been massacred, though it would be several more years before she learned the details of the slaughter and which tribe would be her eventual sworn enemies. On that day, Ruby donned the black face paint she would come to wear habitually for the next ten years and chose to remain in Eorzea rather than return a lone revenant. Black for grief and black for guilt.

Ruby has worked several different jobs, turning down anything as dull as working security in a club, before eventually settling into life as a mercenary. Not subtle enough for an assassin, she is known and usually recruited for her skills in taking out group targets with ruthless efficiency, and has a kill count in the hundreds. Every mission providing a brief respite from her rage and drive for revenge.

Mourning the loss of both her intended khani and her best friend/occasional lover, the Xaela warrior has not had any relationships of any sort in the decade since. Her face paint and seemingly-permanent scowl tend to keep others from wanting to get close to her, which suits her - in her heart of hearts, she knows she is desperately lonely, but the thought of losing anyone else she loves is painful enough to keep her from wanting to pursue any connection.

Currently between missions, Ruby satisfies her bloodlust by taking on the hunt marks that have already claimed hunters’ lives.
